Water Sports

The Columbia River has plenty of room for swimming, boating, water-skiing, personalwaverunner-people.jpg (39877 bytes) watercraft and any other water sports to meet your interests.  You can enjoy warm weather in Umatilla most of the year.  It's a wonderful place to enjoy the river.

Umatilla Marina offers covered berthing for up to 110 boats ranging in length from cruise-ship-two.jpg (60459 bytes) 24 to 60 feet with electricity, water, gas, marina-boats.jpg (46777 bytes) diesel, and pump-out station available. There is also a secure area for long term storage of RV’s and boats, and a dry storage area for boat trailers. Year round camping facilities include full utility hook-ups and tent sites. The Port of Umatilla Marina and Recreational Vehicle Park offers a boat launch, fueling dock, covered berths with power and water, secure storage, RV hookups, and picnic area… all with on-site caretakers.

Oregon Governor's Cup Walleye Tournament is held in September of each year.  This is a two day, two person, Catch & Release tournament.  80% of the total entry fees are paid back as prize fish-big.jpg (23663 bytes) money to the top ten teams.  Winners are determined by total weight of all fish weighed.  Every boat must have an aerated live-well of some kind.  Teams may weigh 6 fish, 18" minimum length, only two may be longer than 24".  Fishing is allowed within thefish-big3.jpg (106826 bytes) boundaries of Lake Umatilla.  Both the WA and OR state records have come from this stretch of the river.  For tournament information contact Rod MacKenzie (541) 567-8419.  The following link provides information on the other events of the Columbia River Walleye Circuit.  Other sites of interest:  Lake Erie Walleye Online     Western Washington Walleye Club    Washington State Fishing Resources    Lower Columbia Walleye Club    Walleye Central - Official Site of the Masters Walleye Circuit    Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife    

Camping

Umatilla Marina RV Park is located approximately one mile from downtown Umatilla and a quarter of a milemarina 4.jpg (75451 bytes) west of the Oregon State Welcome Center.  There are a total of thirty-five (35) sites.  The Columbia River is our main attraction. Walleye, Sturgeon, Bass, Salmon, and Steelhead are the principal pursuit of fishing trips. The Governors Cup Walleye Tournament is held annually on Labor Day Weekend. If you need a picnic sight for a fun day at the river, we have it… complete with a view of the Columbia River with its beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Year-round activities and attractions encompass river cruising, water skiing, and luxurious cruise ships —marinapark-rv.jpg (291755 bytes) including an old fashioned sternwheeler. Umatilla Marina is the hub of year-round events, sightseeing and touring. McNary Dam, Columbia Crest Winery, and Fort Henrietta are in the immediate area. Seasonal events and attractions include two Pro-Rodeos, Umatilla Landing Days, Umatilla County Fair, Museums, two golf courses, a wildlife area within walking distance, and great weather.

Winter Sports

Umatilla is just a few hours away from of ski slopes and resorts. Whether you head west to Mt. Hood,  southwest to Mt. Bachelor, or northeast to Blue Wood, you will find a ski area to meet your needs. Mt. Hood offers year round skiing as well as an alpine slide and recreation area in the summer.  Anthony Lakes Ski Resort a local favorite, is located 19 miles west of the North Powder Exit 285 off Interstate 84 on a well maintained all-weather road.  Spout Springs Ski Resort is located in the heart of the Blue Mountains on Highway 204, Mile Post 22. and is easily accessible on state-cleared, paved highway right to the area.  

Biking

This is a great way to see some beautiful scenery along the Columbia River.  Check out the map available to provide information regarding the location and distance of the developed trails.

Golfing

The Big River Golf Course is a public golf course located at 705 Willamette Ave. in Umatilla.  Opened in 1968, this is a year-round course. Consider the following information:  Holes: 18; Yardage: 6000; Par: 70;wpe6.jpg (20471 bytes) Rating: 68.9; Slope: 119; Telephone: 541- 922-3006
