Mission

The mission of the Umatilla Public Library is to provide free and open access to information and civic improvement.

Services

The Umatilla Public Library is a full service library with approximately 13,000 volumes in it's collection.  The Library, in existence since 1914, has served the City of Umatilla in a number of locations.  The Library offers large print volumes, books on tape, videos, and public access internet service along with thelibrary-computers.jpg (146651 bytes) traditional printed material.  The Umatilla Public Library provides reference services through the Umatilla Special Library District.  This program provides access to materials of twelve different Libraries through the inter-library loan program.

Senior Citizen Programs

The Umatilla Public Library is open 43 hours a week, and offers a number of Special programs for the citizens of Umatilla.  library-display.jpg (191004 bytes)Among these is our outreach to Senior Citizens and other homebound individuals with delivery of materials to their homes.  We also regularly  attend the luncheons served at the Senior Center with specially selected books that can be checked out or returned at the Center.

After School Programs

Another program offer at the Library is the After School Program.  Through this program, the Library entered into a partnership with the Umatilla School District to provide curriculum supportive materials in the Library.  Thelibrary-workstation.jpg (157836 bytes) program also includes weekly programs that entertain or educate school age children.  The Library also has a weekly story time, with special story times being offered for the different Headstart classes in the area.  The Library recently initiated the Storytime Express program that stakes story times out to local Daycare providers.  A Summer Reading Program is also available to youth in the area.

Membership

To receive your Library card, simply stop by the Library during operating hours and ask the Librarian to provide you with a card.  Proof of residence in Umatilla County is required along with parental approval for children under the age of 13.

Expansion Plannedlibrary-storytime2.jpg (225164 bytes)

In the last several years the City has witnessed some dramatic growth in its population.  The Library has kept pace, greatly increasing it's circulation over the past several years, but are rapidly outgrowing the current facility. Plans and community fund raising are currently underway to provide a larger facility to house the Library.
